Monday Funday: toy shop titters, ha-ha-hotels and a laugh-out-loud Aussie ad

As another yearly revolution rolls by, people are at the ready with their NY resolutions. No, that’s not just New Yorkers, but New Year’s resolutions, the world over. So it seems appropriate to cover possible New Year’s resolutions in the world of marketing and content.

The Fisher-Price is right

Miraculous, heart-warming, if a bit garish with the brand punchline at the end, this advert from toymaker Fisher-Price highlights the tender first moments shared between mother and newborn from hospitals all around the world – all delivered on New Year’s Day. We hear various different languages spoken and read translations of the hopes the parents wish for their children.

Booking hell!

Alternatively, if baby-making isn’t on your 2015 to-do list, why not go on holiday and travel the world? While Fisher-Price is looking to elicit an emotional response, the only reaction Booking.com wants from you is one of laughs. A cinematic soundtrack complete with brass and timpani, plus the motivational proud-to-be-British narrator, are the perfect recipe for belly laughs. Replacing expletives with the brand name isn’t the ‘cleverest’ joke in the world but we reckon it’s still comedy gold. Booking.YEAH!

From the ha-ha-harchives

Is your New Year’s resolution to stop your child from truanting? If so, then this might be the vintage vid for you. Please be warned, some viewers may find this advert from Australia disturbing.
